Discussion Theme – Meditation Techniques:

  • Awareness Expanding Subjective Techniques: Vidyas are Vedantic meditation techniques leading to the knowledge of ultimate reality.
e.g. Dahara Vidya –Imagine a lotus in your heart and think of an empty space within the lotus. There is another space within this space; we are asked to imagine further that everything is contained in it. Meditating like this in that inner space, we find consciousness.
  • Objective Meditation Techniques:
Chanting Om: a timeless practice creating vibrating waves of peace within us that overwhelm the chattering of our mind.
Worship of Stone Symbols: Vishnu, Shiva, Buddha etc, helping to focus and concentrate the mind as we reflect on these ancient icons of strength and peace.
Meditation on Natural Objects: The vast ocean, the snow-capped majesty of the Himalayas – scenes of natural grandeur take us beyond our limited everyday world. We’ll explore these and other techniques in the discussion.

Meditation provides a way of learning how to let go. As we sit, the self we’ve been trying to construct and make into a nice neat package continues to unravel.                     John Welwood

Perhaps now you do not enjoy meditating, but as you form the habit you will come to the point where you will actually feel unhappy if you do not meditate. When you reach this stage, you will know you have advanced along the spiritual path.
                                                                  Swami Brahmananda
