Discussion Theme – Aims of Meditation & Yoga

  • Aim of Meditation & Yoga: The demands of modern life focus our time and energy on organising our external world, propelling us on a bumpy ride managing as best as we can. But the inner world of the mind and soul can smoothen our journey, guided by the steadying hands of meditation and yoga.
  • Becoming who we Truly Are: How prone we are to underestimate the power of our mind. How fundamental the mind’s role is in determining whether our lives are restricted and bound or joyous and liberated! Freedom is our real nature, waiting for us to manifest it.
  • A Chaotic House – Taking back control of our Mind: Imagine a wonderful house but with no Master and with no rules to manage unruly guests. Awareness is the missing Master; those unruly guests are our restless minds. Regular meditation ensures awareness will always be home to handle the guests.

We become our own enemy when we are thrown out of balance by anger, hatred, grief or any other intense emotion. We are, for the time being, obsessed by something alien.                                                                   Swami Paramananda

Hatred, envy, malice, jealousy and fear all have children. Any bad thought breeds others, and each of these goes on and on, ever repeating until our world is peopled with their offspring.                                                  Ralph W.Trine

Drawing on the book: Science of Happiness – According to Yoga Vedanta by Pravrajika Divyanandaprana: a compilation of her talks given to students at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi in 2018.
