Help keep community harmony and safety

The Hindu Council of Australia has maintained regular communication with the NSW Police Force and Multicultural NSW in relation to plans for the unofficial Khalistan ‘referendum’ in Sydney. The NSW Police Force, Multicultural NSW and other agencies are proactively monitoring the situation and will respond to any threat to community safety or community harmony.

While some venues in Sydney have denied applications to hold the ‘referendum’ on 4th June, the organisers may still find another venue to go ahead with the event.

The Hindu Council of Australia, is concerned about the safety and security of all residents of NSW. In the interests of community harmony, we ask everyone to avoid any direct confrontation. We advise community members not to go near the event and thereby deprive them of  any opportunity of unnecessary publicity. Keeping away from the event and avoiding confrontation is the best way to maintain community harmony, ensure community safety, and minimise the publicity that the organisers are seeking.

If you or your follow community members ever feel unsafe or threatened, call 000 if it is an emergency, call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444, or contact your local Police Area Command (PAC). If you are concerned about serious online abuse, please report it to the eSafety Commissioner at https://www.esafety.gov.au/report
