Energy project on a collision course with Hindu sentiments

Hindu Council of Australia was approached by Hare Krishna farm in Hunters Valley. EnergyCo is planning to run high volt transmission through the scared land of New Gokula Farm. The farm was chosen as a place for cow refuge and dietys were installed there by Srila Prabhupad, founder of world wide movement called Hare Krishna.  Hindu Council is helping the farm to ensure that the Gokula farm is not desecrated by a Tower.  Hindu Council is working behind the scenes with the state government and we hope that EnergyCo will find an alternate route for the transmission lines and the tower.

THE state’s Hindu community has vowed to move heaven and earth to keep high-voltage renewable energy power lines away from a Millfield property that is visited by tens of thousands of worshippers annually. EnergyCo is investigating the option of installing 70m-high towers, needed for the Hunter Transmission Project, on part of the 550-acre New Gokula Farm. More than 40,000 Hindus travel from across the state to worship at the temple and shrine located on the property, 12
kilometres south-west of Cessnock.
