Discussion Theme:

Continuing Study of Chapter 9
The Way of Kingly Knowledge & Kingly Secret

  • Two Aspects of Reality: At the beach, our attention is readily drawn to the procession of waves peaking, rolling and churning. Beyond them, we gaze over the calm expanse of the ocean. Such are the two aspects of reality: the lila – manifested universe, and the nitya – the eternal reality. One is active, the other is not, but they are one and the same.
  • Body, not the Measuring Rod: How well can you judge a person from their external appearance? We only see their height, size, and clothing. Sometimes, of course, we can readily recognize those of a rough, devious nature with whom we’re naturally cautious. The ones we may not easily understand are the truly great, those deep, humble souls who do not care to reveal their stature or their attainments.
  • Dangerous Words: As they say: ‘Words cut deeper than any blade.’ Cutting words live on in the memory, often festering and giving rise to some terrible reaction as described in the Mahabharata, where King Drupada rejects a plea for help from his boyhood friend, Drona, a slight that fed into events leading to war.

Bhagavad Gita:

Join our exploration of a spiritual classic that’s enriched cultures throughout Asia over the centuries and inspired leading figures in modern times from Mohandas Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Carl Jung, and Aldous Huxley to astronaut Sunita Williams who took a copy of the Bhagavad Gita to the international space station.

We’re dipping into Swami Ranganathananda’s 3 volume commentary: Universal Message of the Bhagavad Gita. The late President of the Ramakrishna Order, the Swami was a world thinker and cultural ambassador for India, sponsored by the Government to travel to over 50 countries around the world giving lectures.
