Migration Strategy, Community Engagement by the Hon Clare O’Neil MP, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Cyber Security,

Dear Community Representative,

On 11 December has announced the Migration Strategy, which outlines a new vision for rebuilding our migration system for a more prosperous and secure Australia.

Migration is central to Australia’s national story, with more than half of all Australians either born overseas or having a parent born overseas. Migrants are an essential part of our economic and social fabric. In times of change and crisis, migration has helped Australia tackle national challenges and build prosperity and security for our citizens. Australia, facing new challenges, has a migration system in need of reform – reform that is needed to seize the opportunities of the coming decade.

We know that many communities provided feedback and submissions to the Migration Strategy Expert Panel.  The Panel received over 480 public submissions, from state and government agencies, business groups, community, unions, and individuals. The panel also took into consideration the need for long-term solutions to support stable and predictable population growth and allow for a more effective planning of infrastructure, housing and services to meet the needs of all Australian residents.

Join Regional Director NSW/ACT Sneha Chatterjee as she provides an overview of the Migration Strategy.
