You Could Be The One To Save Anjali’s Life
Every 28 minutes someone in Australia is diagnosed with a blood cancer such as leukaemia or multiple myeloma. Whilst their best chance of a cure is a stem cell transplant from a family member the reality is that – for the majority of those people, children and adults alike – a blood stem cell transplant from a community member of the same ethnic background is their best chance.
There is an urgent need to find a stem cell match for a member of our community, Anjali, a delightful five year old now fighting for her life. Anjali has been diagnosed with blood cancer and her best hope for a second chance at life is to find a donor match here in Australia.
The Hindu Council of Australia has joined Gift of Life Australia to find a match for Anjali.
Gift of Life is dedicated to saving the lives of blood cancer sufferers by increasing the number and diversity of people on the Australian stem cell register who are available to donate life-saving stem cells.
We have organised a donor event at the Deepavali Festival in Blacktown on October 19th and 20th where anyone 18-35 yrs can register to save Anjali’s life by simply scanning a QR code, answering a few questions and doing a cheek swab on the spot. And even if it turns out you aren’t a match for Anjali, by registering you could save an Indian life anywhere in the world.
Alternatively, we have also set up a dedicated ‘Friends and Family’ page specifically for Anjali which will enable you or any of your friends and family (aged 18-35 yrs) to request a cheek swab kit be sent to their home. You merely swab your cheeks and post it back in the pre-paid envelope provided. So simple but you could be a lifesaver.
Please see the online brochure and video here for further details on how easy it is to save a life.
We hope you will support this very special cause in the spirit of Sewa to Humanity.
