Purpose

This course is designed to provide an overview of the Hindu religion and is especially suitable for non-Hindus seeking a concise introduction to its core beliefs and practices.

Syllabus

Introduction to Hindu Religion

A brief overview of the topics covered in the course “Introduction to Hindu Religion” is provided below:

  • Introduction: Sanatan Dharma, definitions, denominations and diversity, unity within plurality, and colonial influences

  • Core Beliefs and Concepts: Purusharthas (goals of life), philosophies, karma, moksha, and the concept of God

  • Traditions and Practices: Rituals, ceremonies, symbols, rites of passage, bhakti (devotion), festivals, and pilgrimage

  • Scriptures and Teachings: Key texts and their significance across different traditions

  • Social and Ethical Dimensions: Varnas (social orders), vegetarianism, ahimsa (non-violence), and yoga

  • Stages of Life and Renunciation: Ashramas (stages of life), sanyasa (renounced life)

  • Hinduism in Context: Interfaith attitudes and the presence and practice of Hinduism in Australia

How to study this course

Welcome to the Introduction to Hindu Religion Course

Conducted by the Hindu Council of Australia

This is a self-paced learning course, designed to provide a foundational understanding of the Hindu religion. Each topic is presented as a lesson, followed by a short quiz to help reinforce your learning.


 

🧭 How the Course Works

  1. Study Each Lesson
    Carefully read through each lesson to understand the core concepts of Hindu philosophy, traditions, and practices.

  2. Complete the Quiz After Each Lesson
    At the end of every lesson, you will find a link titled “To-do Test/Exam”, which will take you to a quiz based on that lesson’s content.

  3. Answering Quiz Questions

    • Each quiz displays one question at a time,

    • A brief explanation is followed by multiple answer options,

    • Choose the option that best answers the question, then proceed to the next one.

  4. Receiving Your Results

    • Once all questions are completed, your grade will be automatically calculated.

    • An email will be sent to you with your results, including correct answers with explanations for any incorrect ones.


🏆 Course Completion Criteria

  • To successfully complete the course, you must receive a grade of A or B in each quiz.

  • If your grade is below this threshold, you are encouraged to review the lesson and retake the quiz.

  • You can attempt each quiz multiple times until you achieve a passing grade.


🎓 Certification

Upon passing all quizzes with a grade of A or B, you will be eligible to download your Certificate of Completion, titled:

“Introduction to Hindu Religion”
Awarded by the Hindu Council of Australia

Q1 : I have registered but did not get my user id/password or I want to reset my password

It takes up to 24 hours to set up your user id after you have registered for the course at register for the course by clicking here.

If you would like to reset your password please follow the steps below:

3. Click on “Lost your password”
4. Enter your email address to reset your password

Q2: I have already started the course and done one lesson, how do I do rest of the lessons.

Q3: When I click on a lesson, I see only one paragraph. How do I complete this lesson by getting tested on it.

If you click on a lesson you should see a full description of the lesson and a li k to take its test/quiz at the bottom of the lesson. If instead you see only one paragraph of the lesson and do not see how to take a test/quiz on the lesson, it means you have not logged on to the couse website.
