On 15 February 2025, the High Commission of India, in collaboration with the Hindu Council of Australia, hosted a public lecture on the Maha Kumbh Mela at the Innovations Theatre, ANU.
The event was well attended by local community groups. His Excellency Gopal Baglay opened the event by highlighting the cultural and astrological significance of the Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. His address set the tone for a fascinating exploration of the event’s historical and spiritual importance.
Dr. Shanti Reddy, HCA ACT Chair, followed with a captivating presentation, showing satellite images from the European Space Agency that depicted the remarkable logistics of the Mela from space.
Dr. Dalbir Ahlawat, a Researcher at Macquarie University, then provided a detailed account of the Mela’s spiritual significance, sharing personal experiences and insights through his slide presentation.
Prof Himanshu Pota, a professor from UNSW ADFA, gave concluding remarks.
The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session, where attendees engaged deeply with the speakers. The evening concluded with networking over snacks, providing an opportunity for the community to connect further and reflect on the shared cultural experience.
