Deepavali Message – A Call for World Peace and Unity 9 October 2024, Australian Parliament House

Deputy Prime Minister of Australia the Hon Richard Marles MP; High Commissioner of India, HE Gopal Baglay; Members of Australian Parliament; and Hindu Council of Australia President, Vice President and ACT Chair as part of Deepavali celebrations at the Australian Parliament House on 9 October.

The Hindu Council of Australia extends its warmest wishes to everyone celebrating Deepavali, the festival of lights. Deepavali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. In these challenging times of global unrest and uncertainty, the message of Deepavali holds greater significance than ever before. This year, as we light our lamps and celebrate with family and friends, let us reflect on the values of peace, unity, and harmony that are at the heart of this sacred festival. Deepavali is not only a time for personal joy but also a moment for us to come together as a global community, united in our desire for a peaceful world. The Shanti Mantras, central to Hindu tradition, remind us of the importance of fostering peace—within ourselves, with others, and in the world around us. As we invoke peace during Deepavali, let us commit to promoting understanding, compassion, and dialogue across communities, cultures, and nations. We urge all Australians, regardless of faith, to join us in this spirit of unity. Together, we can overcome divisions and build a more peaceful and harmonious world. Key Messages for Deepavali 2024:

· Embrace the spirit of peace and unity.

· Foster mutual respect and compassion across all communities.

· Advocate for global cooperation in addressing current challenges.

· Let the light of Deepavali inspire hope and harmony worldwide.

The Hindu Council of Australia invites everyone to participate in Deepavali celebrations and reflect on its deeper message of peace, so that together, we may contribute to a more inclusive and peaceful world.
