The Hindu Council of Australia hosted a first ever formal Deepavali dinner with community leaders, dignitaries from ruling and opposition parties and Consul Generals from various countries

It was a successful and full house event with the attendance of Deputy Premier Prue Carr who represented the Premier and the team and Scott Farlow who represented the opposition leader Hon. Mark Speakman.
Deputy Premier Hon’ Prue Carr acknowledged the contributions of the Hindu Council of Australia towards the Hindu community in NSW and Australia. She wore an amazing saree and acknowledged that one of the Hindu Council Volunteers who helped her wrap the saree. She also talked about the importance of celebrating Deepavali which is the triumph of good over evil and it gives hope in these times of despair. She not only mentioned the first Hindu school, gave her full support.
Scott Farlow acknowledged that he had no idea what Deepavali was when he was a kid and how it is becoming a more mainstream festival day by day and everyone wants to learn and participate in the festivities and the fun.
Sai Paravastu the national president reiterated the importance of following the traditions as it is the way we had inherited from our ancestors. He also acknowledged the problems of Bangladeshi Hindus going through currently and prayed that Maa Durga will soon end their suffering.
With amazing indoor fireworks, cultural programs among guests with colourful costumes, and delicious dinners provided by Urban Tadka, the event was a successful one even though the Premier was not present.
