The Hindu community worldwide is alarmed by a series of incidents that reflect an escalating trend of Hindu Hate.
Recent acts of vandalism in two temples in Canberra, violent brawls in Brampton, Canada, and earlier attacks on
Hindus during Durga Pooja in Bangladesh highlight the urgent need for a global acknowledgment of and response to
these acts of discrimination and violence.
Temple Vandalism in Canberra
The act of vandalism at a Canberra temple is a stark reminder of the rising intolerance and targeted acts against the
Hindu community in Australia. This attack is not merely an act of property damage but an assault on the community’s
spiritual and cultural sanctity. Such incidents evoke fear and disrupt the sense of safety and peace that places of
worship are meant to provide. (Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre and Mawson Hindu Temple)
Violence in Brampton, Canada
In parallel, recent violent brawls in Brampton have raised deep concerns among Hindus and other communities
globally. These acts are symptomatic of growing Hindu hate and serve to create an environment of fear, hostility,
and division. Such actions are not just a threat to individuals but to the core values of peace and multicultural
harmony.
Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh During Durga Pooja
The attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh during Durga Pooja, which coincided with the sacred Dusherra celebrations,
further underscore the alarming rise in religiously motivated violence against Hindus. These incidents involved
vandalism, desecration of idols, and assaults on individuals, shattering the joy of a festival meant to celebrate the
triumph of good over evil. Such acts not only disrupt the fabric of religious coexistence but also undermine the basic
human rights and safety of minority communities.
Rising Hindu Hate during festival celebrations
The Hindu community has also faced resistance to celebrations such as Deepavali, one of the most cherished festivals
symbolising light, hope, and prosperity. Objections to such peaceful festivities, alongside vandalism and robbery
targeting temples, reveal a growing pattern of prejudice that needs to be confronted and addressed
comprehensively.
Melbourne Council’s Resolution on Caste Discrimination
In a disturbing display of intolerance, the Melbourne council recently passed a resolution on caste discrimination,
effectively targeting the Australian Hindu community. This move perpetuates harmful stereotypes and fuels division,
rather than promoting understanding and inclusivity. It’s crucial to recognize that such actions contribute to the
rising tide of Hindu hate, undermining the community’s sense of belonging and security.
