The Hindu Council of Australia strongly condemns the recent vandalism and robbery of two Hindu temples in ACT. We are deeply disturbed by the disrespect shown to our sacred places of worship and the theft of donations meant for the community.
The breaking of the sacred Shiva Lingam, a revered symbol for Hindus, is particularly distressing. This act of desecration has caused immense pain and anguish to the Hindu community, and we demand that the authorities take immediate and serious action against the perpetrators.
We urge the Australian government to recognise the increasing incidents of Hinduphobia and take concrete steps to address this growing concern. The safety and security of our temples and community members are of utmost importance, and we expect the authorities to ensure that our places of worship remain sacred and protected.
Our Demands:
– Immediate Investigation: We demand a thorough and swift investigation into the vandalism and robbery, and that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
– Increased Security Measures: We request the authorities to provide additional security measures to protect our temples and community centres.
– Recognition of Hinduphobia: We urge the government to acknowledge the rising incidents of Hinduphobia and take concrete steps to address this issue.
“We are deeply saddened and outraged by this senseless act of vandalism, especially during the special festive period of Navratri and Deepavali when our community comes together to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. This incident has shaken our community’s sense of security and belonging. We urge the authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of our community. We will not tolerate any form of hatred or disrespect towards our faith.”
