This project is not about pushing people to donate their organs and tissues. It is about getting people in the Indian community to think about registering an organ donation decision on the Australian Organ Donor Register (AODR). Registration rates in the Indian Community are very low and much lower than the NSW average.

We have developed a website ( WeCare APP) that has videos made by “star” members of the Indian Advisory Panel. The videos are made for the Indian community. The videos on the WeCare website give people all the information they need to think about registering an organ donation so they can make their own informed decisions.  Many people don’t know that you can change your registration decision at any time; it is not a binding decision. You can also remove yourself from the register at any time.

You can register to donate all your organs and tissue,  register to donate specific organs and tissue or even register a no to donation. The most important thing is to register a decision and talk to your family, so your family will be able to honour your wishes if the situation does arise.

We are looking for people who would be keen to be involved in this project and who have a network of people they would be happy to share the project through. We will provide training on how to do this and the resources, such as fliers.   There will be several other Research Assistants.
