Statement from St Johns Church
“Our Christian community did not mean any offence to the Hindu community. We were not trying to put on a Diwali event or celebration but simply to engage with Hindus during the season of Diwali. We wanted to ask Hindus what Diwali means to them, and affirm the values it provides, and if appropriate, to compare and contrast these to the teachings of Jesus through interfaith dialogue. We respect the spiritual ideas Diwali represents that life will defeat the darkness and good will triumph over evil.”
