Why there is no Hindu school in Sydney.
A number of Hindu Doctors, Professors and Tech engineers were also wondering, why do we have to send our children to either a public school or a school of a different faith. Why Hindus parents are deprived of a choice of their own faith school, a choice available to other faith parents in Australia.
Many like minded people joined together and the concept for first Hindu School was born. The school team (HEACC) was set up to establish The Sanatana Independent School. It is a not-for-profit institution and will follow the NSW Curriculum. Morning meditation will incorporate breathing exercises and yoga daily before commencing academic/sporting/music lessons. In addition, there will be morning prayers after lighting the lamps, which has always been a reflection of illuminating one’s soul. This morning routine charges the young mind by activating their parasympathetic system. Over time, regular practice will result in neuronal changes (neuroplasticity), leading to optimal observation and learning during class and when events do not transpire as the student expected.
HEACC has purchased a 5 acres of land in Oakville to start the school in 2027. Australian Independent School, a membership body for not-for-profit schools, has been approached to understand the school registration process. HEACC aims to submit the registration to the curricular body NESA to commence the school in January 2027.
Hindu Council of Australia and an interfaith group Better Balanced Futures (BBF of which Hindu Council is a member) are working with the heacc team to help them get started with their first Hindu School.
