Dhan Dhan Guru Nanak Dev – Wishes for Gurupurab and Karthika Pourniama

Namaste

On this auspicious occasion of Gurupurab and Karthika Pournami, the Hindu Council of Australia extends its heartfelt wishes to all members of our community. These two significant festivals remind us of the timeless values of wisdom, devotion, and unity that enrich our lives and strengthen our Dharma.

Gurupurab

As we celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the great saint and founder of Sikhism, we reflect upon his teachings that resonate deeply with universal values:

  1. Kirat Karo (Earn Honestly): Engage in honest and diligent work to sustain yourself and your family, while remaining ethical and true to your principles.
  2. Naam Japo (Meditate on God’s Name): Constantly remember and meditate on the Divine to nurture your spiritual well-being and inner peace.
  3. Wand Chhako (Share What You Have): Share your earnings, time, and resources with those in need, embracing selflessness and compassion.

These teachings remind us to lead a balanced life that integrates work, spirituality, and service to humanity. Guru Nanak’s wisdom inspires us to practise equality, humility, and devotion to the Divine.

Karthika Pournima

Karthika Pournami marks the spiritual culmination of the holy month of Karthika, a time to worship Lord Shiva and seek His blessings for peace and prosperity. On this full moon day, devotees offer prayers to Lord Shiva and light lamps to dispel ignorance and darkness, symbolising the eternal triumph of dharma.

This day also commemorates Tripurotsava, where Lord Shiva vanquished the asuras and restored balance to the cosmos. It is a reminder for us to destroy the darkness of ego and ignorance within and to shine the light of love, wisdom, and dharma.

“Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam,
Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat.”

(We worship the three-eyed One, Lord Shiva, who nourishes all and frees us from the bondage of ignorance, leading us to immortality.)

May these festivals inspire us to deepen our devotion, practice selfless service, spread the light of knowledge, and work towards the welfare of society. Let us come together as a community to celebrate the beauty of our shared culture and values.

Wishing you all a blessed and joyful Gurupurab and Karthika Pournami.

With prayers and best wishes,
