Every 28 minutes someone in Australia is diagnosed with a blood cancer such as leukaemia or multiple myeloma. Whilst their best chance of a cure is a stem cell transplant from a family member the reality is that – for the majority of those people, children and adults alike – a blood stem cell transplant from a community member of the same ethnic background is their best chance.
There is an urgent need to find a stem cell match for a member of our community, Anjali, a delightful five year old now fighting for her life.
Anjali has been diagnosed with blood cancer and her best hope for a second chance at life is to find a donor match here in Australia.
The Hindu Council of Australia has joined with Gift of Life Australia to find a match for Anjali. Gift of Life is dedicated to saving the lives of blood cancer sufferers by increasing the number and diversity of people on the Australian stem cell register available to donate life-saving stem cells.
We have organised a registry event at the Deepavali Festival in Blacktown on October 19th and 20th where anyone 18-35 years can register to save Anjali’s life by simply scanning a QR code, answering a few questions and doing a cheek swab on the spot. And even if it turns out you aren’t a match for
Anjali, by registering you could save an Indian life anywhere in the world. Alternatively, you can go now to www.gola.org.au where you or any of your friends and family (aged 18-35 yrs) can register to have a cheek swab kit sent to your home. You merely have to swab your
cheeks and return in the pre-paid envelope provided. So simple but you could be a lifesaver. Please see the online brochure and video for further details on how easy it is to save a life. PLEASE BOOK AN APPOINTMENT HERE
