Navaratri ends / Maha Navami

Maha Navami usually falls on the ninth day of Navratri. Peace and knowledge is celebrated and goddess Saraswati, the patron of knowledge, learning, music and arts is honoured. Warriors thank, decorate and worship their weapons, offering prayers to Saraswati. Musicians honour their musical instruments, play them and offer prayers. Farmers, carpenters, smiths, pottery makers, shopkeepers and all sorts of tradespeople similarly decorate and honour their equipment, machinery and tools of trade. Dusshera

Dusshera is a major Hindu festival celebrated at the end of Navratri every year. It celebrates Sri Rama's victory over Ravana. Towering effigies of Ravana are burnt with fireworks symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Dusshera begins the preparation for Deepavali, the festival of lights, one of India's most important and widely celebrated festivals.
