Hindu student kicked out of a Catholic school for a religious nose piercing

Hindu girl in Perth Australia, has been barred from her Catholic school after she had her nose pierced for cultural and religious reasons.

At Aranmore Catholic College, Sanya Singhal, 15, was ordered to remove the tiny new stud in her left nostril or go home. The Year 10 pupil showed teachers a note from her mother and tried to explain the stud could not be removed for 12 months for religious reasons, but was told she could not attend class until she took it out.

Sanya’s mother, Kalyani, said it was a spiritually significant custom in northern India for young girls to have a nose pin inserted to mark their transition to womanhood.

Diwali celebrated in Perth by Hindu Council of Australia

A Diwali celebration was held on 19th October 2018 at Edith Covent University in Perth. The program started by a speech by Bhakti Koriya on the significance of Deepavali. A work shop for making Rangoli was held by Nutan, Damji, Shubhada and Bhakti.

This was followed by a dance by the group. Many passer byes joined the dance and made it a fun event.

Australian city Mayor promotes Yoga for mental health

CITY of Gosnells Mayor Glenn Dewhurst has urged kids to take up yoga as a way to help maintain mental health. Mayor Dewhurst joined children at Leisure World in Thornlie to promote the centre’s junior yoga program and encouraged youths to take up yoga to help manage stress.

Gosnells is a suburb of Perth, located within the City of Gosnells. Gosnells is approx. 20 kilometres south-east of Perth CBD.
